So, this is happening, I wrote a mashup adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s WAITING FOR GODOT (one of the first plays I ever saw) with DC Comics characters, notably the unbelievably-conveniently named star of WONDER WOMAN, Gal Gadot. (The WONDER WOMAN TV show starring Linda Carter was one of the first shows I followed, in reruns, as a kid, and probably my first celebrity crush; just to say, there’s a lot formative experience built up here.)
The first public staged reading of the script will be this coming Wednesday, May 15, at La Val’s Subterranean theater, 1834 Euclid, Berkeley CA 94709. 8 PM, but come early to get your pizza and beer order in! This intimate venue on the northside of UC Berkeley campus was another place I spent many a night back in the day, putting on rock musicals with a small theater company called Emerald Rain Productions, largely with co-collaborators Gaby Alter, Damian Hess (aka MC Frontalot) and Jessica Neighbor.
Sliding scale suggested donation $3-$10. We’re hoping to take this show on the road to comic-cons, comedy fests, and similar pop-culture themed performance venues. If you’re into this sort of thing, this is the thing for you!
For you true Justice League nerds who are concerned with the roster, there will be versions of Supergirl, Huntress, Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern. Will Gal Gadot/Diana/Wonder Woman, in fact, arrive? The Beckett nerds among you will, hopefully, appreciate the continued frustration with this question.
